RENAULT FT AFGHAN
The beginning of the restoration of this FT began in March 2007.
A big thank you to Patrick for the photos!
TF volunteers
Thanks to them four for their work
FT engine
The tank is filled with extremely compact dirt by location
View of engine and gearbox
A large part of this land is already cleared, all that remains is to extract the engine which is in a rather poor state
Pedalboard full of earth
The picture speaks for itself ...
Cockpit once cleaned
Here the base of the gear lever. Strangely all the aluminum parts are eaten away and leave in bluish powder.
Cleaning ...
A large part of the work was based on the cleaning of the tank. A few hundred pounds were taken from the little RENAULT.
Unstucking the tank
The caterpillars will have given a lot of trouble to our volunteers who have worked hard to be able to extract it
Right Chenille
The easiest of both but not badly anyway!
Left chenille
The left caterpillar was crushed against the gypsy. So we were forced to cut it.
General view of the workshop
In the foreground, the B1 Bis under repair after the break of the chain support of the neader during a shoot. Then the FT AFGHAN, followed by a second FT returned to nine. And to finish the Leonce VIELJEUX which is currently in the Resistance space of the museum. Behind is hidden the DODGE WC 56 command which is to this day restored.
The friend Patrick at work ...
Disassembly of suspension system.
Engine Extraction
The engine will have suffered much, especially the block which like most aluminum parts, leaves in blue dust.
Successful operation
The engine will be boned later to retrieve parts that can be used by other museum FTs.
Move to washing area
Storage of parts
The other parts will be stored as a replacement in case of breakage on other FTs.
FT open motor
The crankshaft is in perfect condition unfortunately the pistons are pierced and seized in the block ...
