The incredible German raid on Granville

March 8, 1945

By the bridge of Remagen captured intact, the 3rd American Army Corps crosses the Rhine, the last natural obstacle before reaching the heart of the Third Reich.

That same day, eight hundred kilometers to the west, the Germans, besieged on the Channel Islands, launched a night raid against Granville, south of the Cotentin peninsula, which the Allies made an important coal port to relieve that of Cherbourg.

Transported by a dozen boats, the XNUMX or so men sent to assault the former corsair city will inflict significant destruction on port facilities, seize a cargo ship and capture several American officers.
